Back to Ford after 34 years

Post by rwd3m »

Hi everyone,

Allow me to introduce myself.

I'm Richard, my wife is Heather (more about her later) and I, specifically the wife, have returned to the Blue Oval after 34 years. The last Ford I had was a Mk1 Mexico which I was forced to sell in 1985 by my dearly beloved because 'there's not enough room for the shopping AND the pushchair in the boot!'

I still haven't forgiven her, and she knows it!

I had a few other Fords back in the day including a couple of Mk2 Cortinas (one was a 1600E), an ex-police Mk1 Escort (complete with panda paint!), and a Corsair 2000E. We have now bought a 2016 Fiesta 1.5d and initial impressions are very good. It goes well, handles well, is comfortable, looks good and does loads of miles per gallon. What's not to like?!!!

We have a few cars on the drive (well in the garage and workshop really) including a 1936 Morris 8 (still a bit of a WIP), a '73 Triumph GT6, a '97 Classic Mini and my daily hack, a 2017 Jaguar XE (actually, that one IS on the drive!).

The Fiesta replaces a 2005 MX5 that the wife had from new and was sorry to see go. But the eldest boy and his delightful girlfriend are expecting their first child in January so the good lady wanted something a little more 'Baby friendly'.

I've already started on one or two jobs on the Fiesta beginning with fitting parking sensors (for her not me!) but I'm sure there will be many more!

Looking forward to re-learning Ford and sharing some experiences here.

Regards,

Richard (and Heather).
