The Air Bag On light is on constantly.

Here we go.

I bought the Fiesta from a new door neighbour. Down her drive / 20 yards / up mine. Very next time I started it the "Air Bag On" light stayed on. Handbook states that both should illuminate for a short while as a test then both go out. This makes sense.

The only think I did, apart from drive a mighty 50 yards, was adjust the seat.

Local garage stated that "they are all like that" which to me is short hand for cannot be bothered. Looked a bit confused when I mentioned that the Owners Manual did not agree. Modern "mechanics" seem as much a real mechanic as a flat pack kitchen fitter is a skilled carpenter! The old gal's 89 and cannot remember if teh light was on or not!

So am I right in suspecting it should not be on all the time? Could I have disturbed a wire connection under the seat? Will I have to get a "fault code " cleared before it goes out even if the physical fault is corrected?

Airbag light should not be on and is indicating a fault!

You will need a diagnostic machine to read the airbag system ECU to determine why its on.
May well be to do with the wires under the seat for a seatbelt tensioner buckle.

The fault won't clear without being erased im afraid!
